"On December 4, 1999, the National Security Council’s counterterrorism coordinator, Richard Clarke, sent Mr. Berger a memo suggesting a strike in the last week of 1999 against Al Qaeda camps in Afghanistan. Reports the commission: “In the margin next to Clarke’s suggestion to attack Al Qaeda facilities in the week before January 1, 2000, Berger wrote, ‘no.’ ”

Even if so, so what. We already know that they didn't strike Al Qaeda then and Bush didn't strike Al Qaeda when he was in office before 9/11. How does this tell us anything new?

Besides, I'm no expert on this stuff but a strike like that just before the whole millenium thing might not have been the wisest timing. People were jittery enough as it was.

This was already explained in Richard Clarke's book. There was a couple of times they declined to take a shot at Osama citing intelligence as too vague and worried they might kill innocents.

There were definitely some innocents that lost their lives on 9/11. Clinton's administration cared more about the innocents around Osama.. again, laugh laugh, than he did his own "ordinary Bubbas" here in America.

Pretty bad foresight their Mr. Clintonian.

Won't be watching any DNC this weekend. Nothing, not even going to turn on the TV.

Wondering if, anyone on the right side of things, could actually watch that garbage?

If it was such an awful mistake not to take out Bin Laden at all costs then why didn't Bush make that job #1 (or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5) when he took office? By all accounts, Clinton did make one attempt and gave it serious consideration often. Bush was too busy golfing and ranching to even consider it.

After eight years of appeasing terrorists because our president "had it all under control" after the mission impossible our feel your pain president solved during the millineum attack! Clinton didn't really care that American civilians and soldiers were dying in various bombings and this was translated to the American people as "Don't worry fellow bubbas, we'll get those couple people responsible and try them before the world!"

I don't think Bush, who by the way probably wasn't your president anyway, that was Al Gore if your remember right, could have lead the American people to war as we were even more pacifistic as a nation then, than we are now.

I would have been for hearing about Osama's unfortunate loss of life on day one of Bush's term - yes!
